THE ALCHEMICAL BODY

I have created FÜYA Method following my arcane awareness. My approach is focused on the alchemical body. The alchemical body is enlightened when the physical, the emotional, the spiritual and the transcendent bodies are connected. In 2018 I will publish by manifesto book: FÜYA The Alchemical Body in Italian and in 2019 in English. We have to create with our gifts, the World needs our shining awareness.

When you have contact with the earthworms, you leave your skin’s boundaries and you open up to the universal communion. There is a matter that we cannot see, but we can sense it. The universal rhythm is here and it has always existed. I wish one day we will stop calling everything with the right name and we will just sense it, changing and flaring with us. With our presence we write the space. The environment has an effect on us as well.

A circle is a line, a human is a rock too. The sun and the moon, wake and rest or life and death are the evidence of the universal rhythm. We frequently want to see, to read, to understand, to interpret, to like or to hate everything we bump into. There is no right word but the one that will correct itself again and again. Without any points, life is a rhythm. This is Füya’s message, written inside our body-soul-environment and in our everyday experiences, like the digestion and breathing. All is experience and the experience is unitary, even in our imagination or in the so called “virtual worlds”.

“Why making art?” “What is art?” are prehistory like Duchamp’s fountain signed R.Mutt 1917. We are action: not only with our works or jobs, but also in our everyday presence. We have to admire, challenge and play with our organism and our neural plasticity, connected with all around us -nearby and faraway- and always exposed to the environments. All is rhythm: rest and vigil, hunger and fullness, youth and senility. Füya is part of this rhythm, keenness of entanglement. It is time to flare, we are all artists. Art is a social action and it is part of our evolutionary instinct. All my research is about the Presence Writing of the integral body.

We live the space, we distort it with our presence. The space has an effect on us, it acts against us and for us. Presence Writing does not require only our awareness, we can sense it, play with it and create with it. Presence Writing cares about the unity of visible and invisible experiences. Presence Writing is an enjoyed and suffered -felt and sensed- form of work, it is an energy waste without purpose but aesthetic experience and relationships creation. Pleasure or repugnance into experience makes human organism the measure of its existence.

In 1960, Asger Jorn wrote: "for humanity, time is nothing but a succession of phenomena from a point of observation in space, while space is the order of the co-existence of phenomena in time or process. Time is the change that is only conceivable in the form of a progressive movement in space, while space is the solid that is only conceivable in its participation in a movement" (The End of the Economy and the Realization of Art). Space-time is our testing ground. Into space-time we can give presence to us and to all possible worlds, we can sense presences and play with them. Art is creation of presences and connections in space-time.

We are all artists in the aesthetic experience. We are all creators through our daily work and sweat. Presence Writing is this disclosure. Presence and presences, invisible and visible materials, mindful and instinctive experiences are the cornerstones of my work.

FÜYA Method is an experiential method developed by the artist Damiano Fina since 2004, when his meditation path started. FÜYA Method is about the alchemical body and Presence Writing. The artistic research is inspired by Dogen's zen and John Dewey's philosophy in Human Nature and Conduct and Art as Experience: “The same air that under certain conditions ruffles the pool or wrecks buildings, under other conditions purifies the blood and conveys thought”. FÜYA Method raises keen experiences through the expression of the physical, emotional, spiritual, remote body. For Damiano Fina these four bodies are part of the Alchemical Body. The method is based on solo-in group exercises staged raw in nature or in studio with music. The artist guides every week a group in studio since 2016.

Not knowing what to expect from the artist or the work we were required to do, the workshop started with opening the body and therefore the mind. In simple steps we were brought to a different level of awareness where we had no judgement towards ourselves, the space and the other in the space. The bodies were loved in whatever form they came in, and that made them present themselves as strong and open bodies and spirits. I will carry the balance of the bird on back for years to come, not only in performance, but also to open and ground in daily life - a very thoughtful and useful observation from the artist Damiano Fina. The final step, worked towards by the previous exercises, was a deep contact made through the eyes but reflecting so much more.

Queer Pedagogy

Queer Pedagogy is an artistic method based on Damiano Fina’s research about philosophy, butoh dance and gender studies. The book “The Dance of Eros and Thanatos for a Queer Pedagogy” will be published in 2018. The purpose of this method is to create the guided and protected environment in which human organism can experience its desire of transformation. Queer Pedagogy founds in the ritual the excellent condition for freedom of expression. During the ritual we can join together the profane and the holy dimensions of our existence.

Il metodo: "Nessun organismo vive sotto la propria pelle".

FÜYA è il metodo esperienziale sviluppato dall'artista Damiano Fina a partire dalla ricerca meditativa intrapresa nel 2004 e costantemente nutrita. Si fonda sullo studio delle presenze Presence Writing attraverso un approccio corporeo integrale. Il metodo trae ispirazione soprattutto dalla formazione zen dell'artista e dal pensiero filosofico di John Dewey: “la stessa aria che in certe condizioni agita le acque e distrugge gli edifici, in altre condizioni purifica il sangue e trasmette il pensiero". Dal momento che “nessun organismo vive sotto la propria pelle”, ma i suoi organi sono tentacoli fatti apposta per connettersi con l’ambiente circostante, per John Dewey l’esperienza spande naturalmente in un continuum alle volte opaco altre volte vivido, sul quale si stagliano occasioni più sensibilmente partecipate. Il Metodo FÜYA attiva esperienze vivide in studio e in natura, attraverso un lavoro profondo sull'organismo umano attraverso l'espressione del corpo fisico, emotivo, spirituale, remoto e alchemico. La ricerca dell'artista Damiano Fina si radica su questi quattro corpi per contattare l'espressione spontanea del nostro organismo che ha denominato Presence Writing.
