Butoh Dance Performance
Wildflower Chant
Shells and bones in his hands. He watched flying whales. The song of the wildflower. Toward the abyss.
This performance is rooted in ritual. Devotion is our way of reconnecting with the universe. In this time of violence, filled with dualisms and categories that divide and erect boundaries, I no longer care about words such as man and woman, earth or sky, north or south. Devotion is a worldview that takes us beyond our skin, beyond our bones. In my dreams I see a child with shells and bones like rattles between his fingers, dreaming of flying whales, holding his breath now like an old crow, now like a young monkey. He is dancing to the abyss the song of the wild flower.
